The primary reason we picked the Callaway Warbirds as our best overall golf ball for high handicap is because it comes in a 15 ball pack at a dozen price. We picked the Taylormade Distance+ because we secretly love playing balls like this or the Bridgestone e6. These balls, while a bit more expensive than others on the list, are really solid for average players and don’t break the bank which we also love.
Beyond that, there is some real benefits to playing the Taylormade primarily the solid putting alignment aid that it offers which stands out from competitors. The Titleist TruFeel is an entry price point ball that can give you a taste of what it’s like to play the #1 ball in golf. That said, it only comes in 12 and runs a bit more expensive so it’s not the best pick for high handicappers.
WHY WE PICKED THEM
Why we picked them? Its Titleist for cripe’s sake! Got to have a Titleist ball on a list of best golf balls for high handicappers or any list for that matter. Even if you can’t play very well you can look like you know what you’re doing by carrying around Titleist balls in your golf bag.
Despite the vanity points by having Titleist in your pocket, this is a good entry-level golf ball. It offers a bit more feel around the greens, but still provides the distance most high handicappers are looking for off the tee and throughout the bag.

Ah the Nitro. This is the type of ball that you find lying in the fescue that no one else decided to pick up on their way by. Overall, this is a value golf ball that is best for brand new players or for people that just like to go out and hack it up.
WHY WE PICKED THEM
Honestly, its probably against our better judgement that we did add this ball to our list (JK Nitro we love you). This ball is all about value. At 15 balls per pack and less than $1 per ball price point, golf balls do not get cheaper than this.
When we think about the best golf ball for high handicap we think of value and distance. The Nitro Ultimate Distance is extreme value and we find it to hang on to our distances more or less. For high handicappers that expect to lose balls, these aren’t the worst choice.

After you’ve got a ball that’s running somewhere between $20-$25, the next things to look for are does it promote distance. From there we think softer balls are better for higher handicap golfers because things can go haywire around the greens.

Does a golf ball make a difference for high handicappers?
Honestly, probably not all the much. Playing a brand name ball certainly helps you look the part and it might also inspire confidence before you hit. However, high handicappers don’t have a ton of control over spin and don’t generally have the ability to shape shots.
This doesn’t mean that you should play balls that you find at the bottom of a lake or in the bargain bin at your local sports shop. It just means that you’re not going to see a lot of difference in performance of different balls until you improve other swing fundamentals.
Should high handicappers use Pro V1?
Absolutely not. Pro V1s are very expensive and while they are what the pros use, most high handicappers would not realize the benefit of playing Pro V1s. In fact, very few golfers really would notice a difference. Most play the ball simply because they can afford it or because they want to look like they can.
Is Callaway Supersoft good for high handicappers?
Counter to the Pro V1, we do like the Callaway Supersoft for high handicappers. This would be a good ball for regular players who haven’t been able to prove their game much, but still like to have a quality ball that does well around the greens.
